Frequently Asked Questions...

What is the colon and what are its functions?
The colon, or large intestine or bowel, is the end portion of the digestive tract. It is approximately 5 feet long and 2 ½ inches in diameter. Its major functions are to eliminate waste and to conserve water. Also, there are "good bacteria" living in the colon which synthesize valuable nutrients such as vitamin K and portions of the B complex.

What is the purpose of getting a colon hydrotherapy treatment?
Waste material, especially that which has remained in the colon for some time, i.e. impacted fecal matter, dead cellular tissue, accumulated mucous, parasites, worms, etc., poses several problems. First this material is quite toxic (poisonous). These toxins can re-enter and circulate in the bloodstream making us feel ill, tired or weak. Secondly, impacted materials impair the colon's ability to assimilate minerals and bacteria-produced vitamins. Finally, a build-up of material on the colon walls can inhibit muscular action causing sluggish bowel movements, constipation, and the results of these disorders.

How is a colon hydrotherapy treatment different from an enema?
Enemas are useful for emptying the rectum, the lowest 8 to 12 inches of the colon. Usually, one to two quarts of tap water are used to do that. A colon hydrotherapy session uses 20 to 35 gallons of pure water filtered three different ways and is temperature-controlled. An experienced colon therapist can assist through the use of massage, pressure points, reflexology, breathing techniques and suggestions to work loose and eliminate far more toxic waste than any other short-term method.

Is the treatment painful?
A professional colon hydrotherapist is skilled at putting you at ease and minimizing discomfort. Most people actually enjoy the session and are especially pleased with the unaccustomed sensation of feeling light, clean and clear afterward. Sometimes during a treatment, the colon muscles will contract suddenly expelling considerable amounts of liquid and waste into the rectum. This may feel like cramping or gas and may create a feeling of urgency to empty the rectum. Such episodes, if they do occur, are brief and easily tolerated.

Is it embarrassing to get a colon treatment?
No, you will fully maintain your personal dignity. You will be in a private room with only your professional therapist, who fully appreciates the sensitivity of the colonic procedure and will help you feel at ease. Your emotions will be acknowledged and honored. Through the use of a closed system, there is no mess or odor.

I'm worried that I could become dependent on colon treatments. Are they habit-forming?
Colon hydrotherapy treatments are intended to be used to create a clean and healthy colon. A colon therapist is dedicated to your health and your goal of having a well-functioning colon. Our fulfillment comes from assisting you in cleaning and healing your colon, not in making you dependent upon colonics. One of the best benefits is that a session can be used to tonify the colon muscle so that the colon doesn't perform so sluggishly. Many people have sluggish colons. It may take days for bowel movements to return after a good colon therapy session. This is when some people may think they are becoming dependent on colonics. One session is worth 20 to 30 regular bowel movements, so it may take some time for fecal matter to build up in the colon once again.

How long does a session last?
A colon hydrotherapy treatment lasts around an hour, with the client on the table about 45 minutes. The first session may last an hour and a half since you will be asked to complete a written intake form.
